DETAILED ITINERARY:
Day 1: Hanoi – Mai Chau – Hanoi
Meals: Lunch, BBQ dinner | Accommodation: Traditional stilt-house
7:30am – Our driver will pick you up from your hotel and drive to Mai Chau. You will leave the city behind and pass through a mountainous landscape. Drive up a massive pass and end in the mountainous circus of Mai Chau.
10:30am – You will meet with a local tour guide and get to know about the tour program. Then, at 11:00 am, hop on an electric car for an enchanting ride through rice fields to Lac village where you will visit Hoa Ban weaving atelier. You will learn the White Thai traditional way of weaving, embroidery techniques, and experience a hands-on natural dyeing workshop hosted by a Thai lady. Leaving the atelier, you will bring back not only beautiful memories but also a product dyed by your own hands.
1:00pm – Have lunch with Mai Chau specialties delicately prepared by your host family. Then, hop on a bicycle and start cycling. Experience the most beautiful cycling routes in Mai Chau valley, through authentic villages, rice fields, and crops. On the way, you can stop at any time to catch beautiful moments of nature or talk to a villager.
4:00pm – It’s time to go back to the homestay. You will have free time to relax in the reading corner of the homestay or to walk around Na Phon village. Enjoy a BBQ dinner prepared by your hosts with their amazing cuisine skills before going to bed in the peaceful atmosphere of the village.
Your overnight accommodation is provided by a local family in their traditional house-on-stilts. There’s no private room, and you’ll sleep on the floor in a large communal area. The sleeping corner is set up with a single mattress, blankets, pillow, and mosquito net. The restroom is at international standard and just a few steps from the main house.
Day 2: Mai Chau – Pu Luong National Reserve – From valley to jungle
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner | Accommodation: Traditional stilt house
After breakfast, it’s time to leave your hosts and drive East for about 15 km before entering the Pu Luong nature reserve. You will go on an amazing hike for 2 hours to Bang village on a single trail through Thai villages and rice terraces to Kho Muong village.
After a delicious lunch, you head to Cham stream. When reaching the stream, try an unforgettable bamboo rafting experience, and if the weather is not too cool, jump into the fresh water. Have some hot tea and fruits after swimming, then turn back to Mai Chau. On the way back, we will stop at the waterwheel to see the skillful technique of the Thai people that are using water-power to irrigate their fields.
Day 3: Mai Chau, Tat Nang Waterfall, and Hot Springs
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Afternoon Tea | Accommodation: Not included
Get ready to explore the stunning Mai Chau valley with our experienced local guide. This exciting day trip will take you to a hidden waterfall and hot spring located off the beaten track.
The day starts with an early breakfast at 6:30am, followed by a motorbike ride with our expert driver to Tat Nang Waterfall. The waterfall is nestled behind the terraced paddy fields and flows throughout the year, providing a source of water for the surrounding rice fields.
Take a refreshing break to swim in the waterfall or head directly to the Phụ Mẫu hot springs to relax and soak in the therapeutic waters.
At noon, enjoy a traditional Thai lunch with a local family in the Chieng Xuan village.
After lunch, we will head back to Mai Chau with a stop at Hoà Bình lake, also known as “Halong Bay on the mountains” for its stunning views. The lake was formed during the construction of the Hoa Binh hydropower plant.
Arrive in Mai Chau at 3:00pm and have some tea before saying goodbye to your host.
Then, we’ll head back to Hanoi, arriving at 8:30pm.
