DETAILED ITINERARY:
Day 1: Arrival in Ho Chi Minh City
Upon arrival at Tan Son Nhat Airport, you will be greeted and transported to your hotel for check-in. Enjoy a relaxing evening in Ho Chi Minh City.
Day 2: Ho Chi Minh City – Cu Chi Tunnels (B, L)
Start the morning with breakfast at the hotel before embarking on a city tour. At 7:40 am, the bus will pick you up at your hotel and take you to Independence Palace, also known as Reunification Palace. This historic site was the site of two major conflicts between the locals and the American and French colonisers, and played a significant role in Vietnam’s history.
The next stop on the tour is the Notre Dame Cathedral, a beautiful example of French colonial architecture. Afterward, visit the Central Post Office, a structure designed by the renowned Gustave Eiffel.
The War Remnants Museum is the next stop on the tour. This museum offers a sobering look at the past, and was opened to the public in 1975 as the “Museum of American War Crimes.”
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant before departing for Cu Chi to explore the famous “steel area” of Vietnamese history.
Learn about the history and culture of the region by watching an introductory video and exploring the tunnels, which showcase the creativity and resourcefulness of the Vietnamese people. The site includes weapon factories, field hospitals, command centers, storage areas, and special living quarters with kitchens and bedrooms.
Visitors can also learn about the hidden trap doors and deadly traps used by former Vietnamese guerrillas. Sample the guerillas’ staple food, cassava, and try a special tea. For an extra fee, you can even try firing a real gun. Return to Ho Chi Minh City and spend the night there.
Day 3: Mekong Delta – Departure (B, L)
Begin the day with breakfast at the hotel, and at 7:45 am, the bus will pick you up for a trip to the Mekong Delta, a picturesque water area in southern Vietnam. As you travel along the National Highway, take in the scenic beauty of the rice fields along the way.
The first stop is My Tho, where you’ll visit the Vinh Trang Pagoda, a stunningly beautiful pagoda designed in a mix of Asian and European styles, with a large garden surrounding it.
Next, take a boat ride on the river to see stilt houses, fruit orchards, and fishing villages. Enjoy lunch in the orchard garden on Tortoise Islet, followed by a visit to An Khanh, where you’ll take a leisurely sampan ride through narrow canals with the shadow of water coconut trees, taste tropical fruit, sip honey tea, and listen to Southern Vietnamese folk music.
The Mekong Delta tour also includes a visit to a family business, where you can learn about rural life in the region, sample delicious coconut candy, and stroll through a fruit plantation. This trip offers a fascinating insight into the peaceful life and the richness of the culture in the water area.
At 5:30 pm, return to Ho Chi Minh City, and spend some leisure time until it’s time to be transferred to Tan Son Nhat airport for your departure. This concludes the three-day package tour of Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta.
